Denis Job - in RemembranceIt is with great sadness that we announce that Denis Job, the Lady Cable Treasurer, Engineer and Surveyor died this morning (20th December 2008) after a battle with cancer. He was the cornerstone of the Lady Cable Restoration; a trust member who set many wheels in motion. He will also be fondly remembered for his entertaining after dinner speeches. Whilst not losing site of fund-raising he kept many organisations in stitches with tales based on his local nautical knowledge.

Denis initially came to one of our meetings and said "The best thing you can do with the Lady Cable is put a chain saw to her", but when he realised that we were not going to give up that easily he immediately offered his full untiring support. He arranged quotations and found the right shipwright; he arranged her display on a back of a low-loader at a steam fair; and the list goes on. He was a man of extraordinary accomplishment, strength, and humility. He was respected by all and a close friend to many. He will be sadly missed. We offer our deepest condolences to his wife Grace and her family. |
